Robin Sharma's brilliant book-reading tips!
...my love for books has led me on this glorious adventure into the most beautiful minds on planet earth. And one of those minds...
If you know me at all, you would know that I absolutely love to read books, fiction and non-fiction. And my love for books has led me on this glorious adventure into the most beautiful minds on planet earth.
And one of those minds is Robin Sharma’s. Gosh! I love how Robin Sharma thinks and I absolutely love how he writes. So you can imagine how excited I was when I learnt that he is into BOOKS too. Like he is such a reader!
I am going to be sharing some of his brilliant tips for reading books with you. You’d find this absolutely useful. I promise.
Tip ONE: Read the Table of Contents
So when I was still running my Masterclass and teaching people how to read consistently, this was one of my game-changer tips. And to see that Robin Sharma actually does this gives me joy.
Before saying “I Do” to any book, make sure you go through the table of contents to get a sense of where the book is going. Personally, if the table of contents doesn't interest me, I will go and find another book that will teach me what I need to learn in a more interesting way. Life’s too short for boring books. 😃
Tip TWO: Read with deep focus.
Robin Sharma says he blocks out time for reading, eliminates distractions and reads with deep focus. Look, even if you want to read for just 10 mins per day, read with DEEP FOCUS. Delete the Distractions and read with Deep Focus.
“ Don't snack on content, because building a content-snacking brain” will yield a snacking sort of life.”
That’s totally Robin Sharma's quote. Not mine 😂😂
Tip THREE: Read Slowly (well sometimes)
I know you love the idea of speed reading which is great, especially for when you need urgent information. But sometimes, read Slowly and Deliberately. Not everytime speed reading.
Take the time to write your deepest lessons down in your notepad or journal so you can always go back to these lessons. Actually, make a habit of going back to the notes you take from books you’ve read. That's such a precious thing to do.
Tip FOUR: Apply the lessons.
What's the point of reading if you are not going to allow the knowledge change you? Stunning Question! Your brain is not a museum for just storing up the knowledge you are getting from books. Apply the lessons to your life! Create a plan and a system for applying the knowledge you are getting from books into your life.
Tip FIVE: Read for fun too.
Please, not everytime serious stuff. Read for fun!! Pick up fiction books too and just laugh, smile, or cry. This just made me remember Karen Kingsbury's book and how they have made me cry on so many nights. 😃😃
This is what Robin Sharma had to say on this tip:
“On some days I’m in the mood for a book that will kickstart my A-game. On others, I wish to read fiction or poetry. I’m not dogmatic about what I read. Instead, I allow The Muse to lead me into what I need to learn (or enjoy).”
